Letter from Mr. Moricle:

Each year our 6th graders attend an outdoor education camp called High Trails in Florissant, CO. This is a unique opportunity that allows our learners to create relationships with staff, students, and nature. The experience is communal from the meals to the time in cabins which allows young people to learn responsibility to a group as well as to themselves. Students participate in hikes and collaborative activities that are led by high school counselors. Teachers monitor students and their behaviors while supporting the high schoolers as they develop their leadership skills. The cost to attend High Trails is $290 which is paid through Infinite Campus. If you have requested financial assistance to cover part of the cost or to set up a payment plan, Mr. Moricle will be in contact with you.

If your student is not going to High Trails, please email Mr. Moricle to let him know.  The expectation is for those students staying back to attend school during normal hours. During those days, students will participate in hands on activities both indoors and outside on the school grounds which are focused on teambuilding, historic homesteading, and the plants, animals, and native peoples of Colorado. The program, called Wolf Trails, is based on key elements of the High Trails curriculum, and will be taught by guest teachers who are familiar with the program. The cost for Wolf Trails is $50 which covers the cost of supplies and the guest teachers. Please see additional information below and contact Mr. Moricle if you have any questions about High Trails or Wolf Trails.

 Registration

All registration for the camp this year is online.  Please register your student through SchoolDoc and complete the registration information entirely.  The instructions for registration are located here. If you have a technical question about using the system to register your student, please contact the SchoolDoc support team.

 Departure and Return

Students going to High Trails should arrive in Circle Drive at 7:50am on the day of departure. Parents/Guardians will need to bring their student to school on departure days. They will not be allowed to ride the bus to school. They will put their luggage in a loading area of Circle Drive and go to their core one class until they are called to load the buses at 8:30am. At that time, they will report to their designated bus and will leave by 9:00am. Students will return to TMS at approximately 1:30pm on their arrival day (Wednesday or Friday).  Please plan to pick up your student as they will not be able to ride the bus upon return to TMS. When picking up your student, please wait outside of Circle Drive as the buses will need that space to unload students. Any medication sent on the trip or items in the lost and found can be picked up from designated staff members at Circle Drive.

Medication

Paperwork for all medication a student may take is required, and can be obtained and submitted as follows:

  • If a student is taking medication DURING the school day, paperwork has already been filled out and given to the school nurse. This paperwork can be used by the parent to upload into School Docs. In the case where a parent might need a copy of the paperwork, they may request it from the school, but the parent needs to be the person to upload it.

  • If a student is taking medication OUTSIDE of school hours, then the High Trails medication form needs to be downloaded from SchoolDoc, provided to a physician to get signed, and uploaded back into the system. This form becomes available to download once parents have listed the medication/strength/dose qty/dose form/time of day given in School Docs.

Camp Details

Students will work with their pack science teacher to determine the discovery groups they would like to participate in as well as their cabin buddy. Teachers will do their best to accommodate student requests for discovery groups and bunk mates. Please see this packing list for items to bring and be sure to include your student’s first and last name on all items.

 Payment and Financial Support

Please make payments through Infinite Campus for this trip. If your student will not be attending High Trails, we will change the fee to the $50 for Wolf Trails when we receive confirmation via email of them not attending. For those requesting financial assistance, Mr. Moricle will be contacting you if he has not already. Please know that our need for support is great, and we will continue to serve as many people as possible with our scholarship funds.

Thanks for your continued support!
